The establishing of the Network was initiated by the Research Center in Gender Studies, Skopje, and Women's Studies and Gender Research Center, Belgrade, with the support of Network Women's Program of OSI, New York.  

Starting from year 2004, the virtual Secretariat of the Network is hosted by the Research Center in Gender Studies.
